Virgin Limobike
You’ve got to be joking…

Filed under: Lifestyle, Travel May 18, 2012

I've always preferred my transportation to have four wheels with a bonnet and a boot, or a hood and trunk, depending on what side of the Atlantic I am on. My first experience with a motorbike was with my younger brother Steven who decided he needed to have a motorbike when he was much younger and we all lived in Chicago. I can't honestly remember what it was, but he arrived at my house all puffed up and ready to show off. He insisted that we watch him do cool things in the alley, where he proceeded to make a lot of noise and then fall off the bike. We spent the next 5 hours in the Emergency Room and based on the mess he made of himself traveling at 5 miles an hour, I decided that I was never getting on a motorbike again.

Ten years later I found myself living in London. The couple that I was working with were major celebrities, and a lot of fun. When I wasn't looking for the key to the front door of the house in Wilton Crescent, I was looking for one of the many cars that had either been left on the street or in a hotel parking lot. Life was good. I really didn't have to use my brain very much, and I was loving every minute of it. One day all of us had to fly to Los Angeles on the last Virgin Atlantic flight in the afternoon. We were all in different locations, and traffic was a nightmare. My usual call to Addison Lee for a car was a waste of time so I decided to call Virgin Limobike instead.

This was the new service that Richard Branson had started promoting locally, and I needed their help. Three motorbikes, and 90 minutes later the three of us arrived at Heathrow Terminal 3 at the Virgin Clubhouse, all checked in and ready to go. I was a hero and we won't even talk about what happened on the flight that afternoon, except to say the Captain announced turbulence halfway across the Atlantic and never switched off the seat belt sign again until we reached LA..! Today my brother drives a large SUV, and my friends in London are divorced, remarried and god parents to each others children, but one thing hasn't changed, and that's the value of knowing who to call in London when you need to be somewhere on time and a car and driver just won't cut it.

GBB Says: If you're in London and need to beat traffic to get to an appointment or catch a flight, do what we do and call call Virgin Limobike. The service is professional, safe and it's kind of a cool way to get around town.
