So who is Christophe Vasseur and why should you care? Well the truth is that he hasn't won a Nobel Peace Prize, at least not yet, he hasn't come up with a new algorithm that will change our lives and make him a Billionaire, and he hasn't been seen on any reality TV show that would make him famous for at least 15 minutes. Instead, he is a just a really nice French guy in his early 40's, who lives in Paris with his wife and two children, and has worked really hard for the last 10 years to become an amazing baker and in the process become Paris's destination boulangerie and a celebrity in his own right.
Christophe didn't start out as a baker and it wasn't until he was in his early 30's that he decided to leave the world of fashion and instead learn how to create magic with flour, salt, water and a little bit of yeast. In fact being a magician is how Christophe see's himself, and as bread plays such an important part in daily French life it wasn't a long shot to realize that if he got it right he could make people crazy for more, and that's exactly what he did with his signature loaf, the pain des amis, the bread of friendship. Then one day Chef Alain Ducasse came by and asked him to supply his new restaurant at Hôtel Plaza Athénée, and the rest is history. So next time you are in Paris make a trip to the bakery. We promise that you will smell the aroma of baking well before you see the store. Then take in the surroundings, buy what we can only describe as the best baking we have ever tasted anywhere, and if it's nice out sit at the communal table outside the bakery, and watch the world go by.
GBB Says: You will find Christophe Vasseur in the 10th arrondisment on the corner of rue Yves Toudic, and rue de Marseille. The bakery is open Monday through Friday from 6.45am until 8.00pm and it's not be missed. If it's good enough for Alain Ducasse to send a car and driver every morning, then it's good enough for us, too.
